Box Score LATHAM, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team battled throughout the lineup but ultimately fell to Vassar by a 5-2 score at TriCity Tennis Club today.
The Brewers claimed the early advantage by sweeping the doubles competition.
Kayla Wheeler and
Anushka Jaiswal competed at the top position, while
Gauri Muliyil and
Juliette Ceas dropped a competitive 6-4 decision at No. 2 doubles. At the third spot,
Prisha Rapur and
Victoria Sarabosing also fought closely before falling by a 6-4 margin, as Vassar secured the doubles point.
In singles play, the Engineers continued to compete in several tightly contested matches, particularly at the top of the lineup. Muliyil battled through a close opening set at No. 1 singles that was decided in a tiebreak before ultimately falling 7-6, 6-4. At No. 2, Wheeler responded after dropping the first set to win the second 6-4, forcing a third set before her opponent pulled away for the win. Sarabosing delivered another close contest at No. 3 singles, also pushing the opening set to a tiebreak before falling 7-6, 6-4.
At the fourth position, Ceas dropped the opening set before competing in another tightly contested second set that reached a tiebreak, while the Engineers found success in the bottom half of the lineup.
Neha Saraswatula secured one of RPI's points with a strong 6-4, 6-1 victory, controlling play after a competitive first set.
Prisha Rapur added the Engineers' second point at No. 6 singles, earning a 6-4, 6-4 win to close out the match.
