Box Score TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team edged Union in a tightly contested Liberty League matchup, earning a 4-3 victory at Sharp Courts behind a dominant doubles sweep and three key singles wins.
The Engineers seized early control of the match by sweeping all three doubles contests to claim the opening point. At the top position,
Nicole Ridenour and
Anushka Jaiswal delivered a flawless performance with a 6-0 victory, setting the tone for the afternoon.
Victoria Sarabosing and
Kayla Wheeler followed with a strong 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while
Gauri Muliyil and
Juliette Ceas completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory at the third position.
RPI carried that momentum into singles play, where the Engineers secured three victories to clinch the match. At No. 1 singles, Ridenour battled through a tightly contested opening set, prevailing in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-5) before pulling away in the second set for a 6-2 win. Wheeler added another point at No. 3 singles, controlling her match from the outset in a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
The deciding point came from the bottom of the lineup, where
Neha Saraswatula delivered a dominant performance at No. 6 singles, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win to secure the team victory for the Engineers.
Elsewhere in the lineup, Ceas competed in a hard-fought three-set battle at No. 4 singles, pushing her opponent after taking the second set before ultimately falling in the third. Muliyil and
Prisha Rapur both competed at the second and fifth positions, respectively, before their matches were cut short due to retirement.
RPI is next scheduled to face William Smith on Saturday at 10:00 am in Geneva.
