TROY, NY — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team pulled away in the second half to earn its first victory of the 2026 season with a 7-4 win over Hartwick this afternoon at Harkness Field. The Engineers improved to 1-1 with the victory.
Sophia Brown paced the RPI offense with a hat trick, while
Emily Dubord added two goals as the Engineers scored four times after halftime.
Brown opened the scoring in the first quarter off an assist from
Emily Frey before Hartwick answered to make it 1-1. Brown struck again early in the second quarter, this time on a feed from
Kylie Secker, before the Hawks once again drew even.
Secker put RPI back in front with a goal later in the second quarter, but Hartwick responded before halftime to send the teams into the break tied at 3-3.
Brown completed her hat trick early in the third quarter to give the Engineers a 4-3 lead. Hartwick answered once more to tie the contest, but RPI took control from there. Dubord scored twice late in the period, with
Kennedy Campbell assisting on the second tally, to give the Engineers a 6-4 advantage entering the fourth quarter.
Jianna Seale added the final goal in the fourth quarter off an assist from
Ria Patel to account for the 7-4 final.
RPI held an 18-15 advantage in total shots and a 16-7 edge in shots on goal.
Olivia Brovak made two saves in the opening 36 minutes, while
Megan Rice stopped the only shot she faced over the final 23-plus minutes.
