ITHACA, N.Y. - Junior netminder Jason Kasdorf made 29 saves, including 13 in the third period and overtime, to help the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team to a 2-2 tie with Cornell University at a sold out Lynah Rink. With the draw, the Engineers snap a six-game losing streak and are now 9-22-2 overall (7-11-1 ECAC Hockey). The Big Red move to 10-11-5 (8-8-3 ECAC Hockey).

After a scoreless first period, the Engineers struck twice in the second, just 38 seconds apart, to take a 2-0 lead. Freshman Lou Nanne (Edina, MN/Sioux Falls Stampede) opened the scoring at 11:55 of the second when he fired a shot from the right circle past Cornell sophomore goaltender Mitch Gillam (Peterborough, ON/Chilliwack Chiefs) for his fifth goal of the season. Classmate Drew Melanson (Paramus, NJ/Waterloo Black Hawks) picked up the lone assist.

Fellow rookie Viktor Liljegren (Stockholm, Sweden/Fairbanks Ice Dogs) then gave the visitors a 2-0 edge at 12:28, after junior Milos Bubela (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Dubuque Fighting Saints) made a play at the blue line to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Liljegren wheeled around in the slot and wristed a shot past Gilliam's blocker for his sixth of the year. Senior Zach Schroeder (Prior Lake, MN/Saint Thomas Academy) also had an assist.

The Engineers took their 2-0 lead into the second intermission, despite being outshot, 16-11.

Cornell drew to within 2-1 at 3:31 of the third period on a power-play goal by senior captain John McCarron (Macomb, MI/Lincoln Stars). The Big Red used solid puck movement to find space for McCarron in the slot, where he was able to beat Kasdorf (Winnipeg, MB/Des Moines Bucs) to the top left corner of the net. Helpers on the goal went to senior Cole Bardreau (Fairport, NY/U.S. National Dev. Team) and sophomore Jake Weidner (Grand Valley, ON/Elmira Sugar Kings).

McCarron then netted the game-tying goal with just 32.8 seconds remaining, after the Big Red had lifted Gillam for an extra-attacker. With the Engineers unable to clear their own end, Cornell took advantage when senior Jacob MacDonald (Brighton, MI/Waterloo Black Hawks) found his classmate in the right circle with an open look at goal.

Neither team scored in the extra five minutes, with each team recording three shots.

Kasdorf moves his personal record to 9-15-1, while Gillam (9-7-5) made 22 saves, including 10 in the second period. The Big Red went 1 for 2 on the power-play, while the Engineers finished 0 for 3.

The Engineers, who are now 2-0-2 in their last four against Cornell, travel to Colgate University on Saturday night (7pm), while Cornell hosts Union College (7pm).
