ONEONTA, N.Y. - Sophomore Sandy Turnbull (Upperville, VA/Chatham Hall) used her reverse stick to knock a ball by Oneonta goalie Erika Dombkowski (Carmel/Carmel) just 43 seconds into the first overtime period to lift the visiting Rensselaer Red Hawks to a 2-1 victory tonight in non conference field hockey action.

After the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through the first half, neither team was able to break through in the second half, which forced the extra period of play.

Rensselaer (4-2) scored in the seventh minute of play off of a penalty corner when Turnbull pushed the ball directly into senior Sara Stylinski (Southington, CT/Southington), who then knocked a shot passed Dombkowski for the early 1-0 lead.

Oneonta (3-2) tied the game in the 27th minute on a goal by freshman Cassie O'Mara (Mahopac/Lakeland) when she was able to get her stick on a shot that was headed wide from sophomore Ainsley Stoll (Williamsville/Williamsville North). O'Mara was able to redirect the shot just inside the near post.

Oneonta did its best to get the go ahead goal in the final 10 minutes, but couldn't capitalize on its opportunities that included five penalty corners. The Red Dragons finished thew game with a 14-8 advantage in corners including a 7-1 edge in the second half.

Oneonta will be back in action again this Saturday at home when they open its SUNYAC schedule against Geneseo beginning at 1:00 p.m.  RPI is back in action on Sunday at home against Wheaton (MA) at 1:00p.m.
