NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Niagara rallied back from three one-goal deficits to earn a 3-3 tie against Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon at Dwyer Arena. The Purple Eagles are now 1-2-1 overall, while the Engineers move to 2-0-2 on the season.

The first and second periods witnessed continuous action with several clear scoring chances for each team. Niagara fell behind 3:36 into the game when Sydney O'Keefe (Prior Lake, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season off assists from Jill Vandegrift (St. Paul, Minn.) and Laura Guillemette (Ste-Marie-de-Beauce, Que.).

At the 13:39 mark, senior Mary McKinnon (Summerside, P.E.I.) brought Niagara level on the power play with a one-timer goal off a pass from Jocey Kleiber (Edina, Minn.). RPI (2-0-2) wasted little time to regain the lead as O'Keefe scored her second of the game just 59 seconds after McKinnon's tally.

Jenna Hendrikx (Winchester, Ont.) tied the game 41 seconds into the start of the second period to score her fourth goal in four games. RPI's Kendra Dunlop (Granum, Alb.) tallied to put NU down, 3-2, after five minutes in the period.

The Purple Eagles netted the game's sixth and final goal two minutes later after sophomore Erica Owczarczak (West Seneca, N.Y.) took the puck from NU's end and had her first shot saved, but buried the rebound to tie the game at 3-3.

In the third period, neither team managed the same success as they did in the first and second period, causing overtime. In overtime, Niagara earned a power play five seconds into the extra period, but was unable to net the winner.

Niagara goalie Jenni Bauer stopped 21 shots, while RPI freshman Shannon Ramelot (Bloomfield, Mich.) made 17 stops in her collegiate debut.

The Purple Eagles will begin their six-game road trip next weekend against No. 3 New Hampshire. The Engineers return home for a two-game set against Mercyhurst, which is the top-ranked team in the country.
