WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Erin McCarthy's fifth goal of the game came with just 13 seconds left in overtime and the Wesleyan women's lacrosse team defeated Rensselaer, 13-12, in a non-league game.  The Cardinals improve to 2-1, while the Engineers, who held a 12-11 lead in the extra session, fall to 1-1.

The teams were tied at 11-11 going into the two-session, six minutes of overtime.  RPI sophomore Laura Connor (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) scored in the first session for a 12-11 lead going into the final three-minute segment of overtime.  RPI won possession and maintained the ball until 1:16 remained when an offside occurred, giving the ball to Wesleyan.

The Cardinals tied the game on a goal by Catherine Taibi at 1:26, won the ensuing draw and McCarthy won it 1:13 later.

RPI was led offensively by junior Afton Marshall (Windham, NH / Salem), who had three goals and three assists.  Freshman Shannon McGuire (Randolph, NJ / Randolph) added two goals and two assists.  Senior Ariana Hood (Severn, MD / Old Mill) made 14 saves in goal.

Maggie Drowica stopped 12 shots for Wesleyan.
