Women's Hockey Shutout at Colgate

Engineers suffer a 2-0 loss to the Raiders

Box Score

HAMILTON, N.Y.  – Sophomore Jenna Klynstra netted a goal and assisted on the game-winner to lead Colgate to a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer in ECAC Women's Hockey action on Friday. With the win, the Raiders move to 8-16-2 with a 5-9-1 conference mark. The Engineers slip to 9-11-6 overall and 7-7-1 in ECAC Hockey.

Colgate got things going in the opening stanza as junior Amanda Kirwan (Mississauga, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros) collected a pass from Klynstra (Edmonton, AB/Eastglen Composite) and fired a shot past RPI's Sonja van der Bliek (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros) at 12:42.

The teams skated through a scoreless second period, but two late calls on RPI gave the homestanding Raiders a 5-on-3 advantage heading into the final period. The Engineers were unable to hold off the Colgate offense as Klynstra corralled a pass from senior captain Jessi Waters (Menlo Park, CA/Westminster) for the power play goal just 29 seconds into the stanza.

Rensselaer tried to battle back, outshooting the host Raiders by an 8-5 margin, but they could not solve junior netminder Kimberley Sass (East Amherst, NY/Buffalo Bison). She stopped 21 shots in the game for the victory.

In goal for the Engineers, van der Bliek suffered the loss with 21 saves, including 12 in the middle period.

Colgate is back in action on Saturday, hosting Union at 4pm. The Engineers head to Ithaca to battle #2 Cornell, also at 4pm.
