Women's Lacrosse Drops Non-League Contest at Nazareth

Second-half push leads Golden Flyers past Engineers, 9-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth outscored Rensselaer 6-1 over the final 30 minutes Friday to snap a 3-3 halftime deadlock and went on to take a 9-4 women's lacrosse win over Rensselaer in a non-conference game. With the win, the Golden Flyers improved to 2-1 overall, while the Engineers dropped to 1-1.

Sophomore Megan Cregan (Brighton/Rochester, NY) scored three goals and added two assists for the Golden Flyers. She ran the length of the field for an unassisted goal with just :02 left in the first half to knot the score at 3-3. The Golden Flyers then scored six straight goals in the second half to take control and kept the Engineers off the scoreboard until just :41 remained.

Cregan assisted sophomore Erinn Wood (Vestal, NY) on the go-ahead goal early in the second half and sophomore Alyssa Johnston (Canandaigua) followed with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart to extend Nazareth's lead to 6-3.

Cregan's second goal of the game, off a pass from senior Kristine Olijnyk (Webster Thomas/Webster, NY), extended the lead again. Senior Michelle Cook (Waterloo/Waterloo, NY) and Cregan added unassisted goals to close out the scoring.

Renssealer finally interuppted the run on a goal by Afton Marshall (Windham, NH) with :41 left.

Rensselaer got first-half goals from Stephanie Caouette (Wynantskill, NY), Whitney Kukol (Johnson City, NY) and Alissa Peterson (Gaithersburg, MD) to take a 3-2 advantage before Cregan scored before halftime. Freshman Amy McIntosh (Horseheads/Horseheads, NY) and Wood also scored for the Golden Flyers.

Freshman Tara Prosak (Jamesville-Dewitt/Jamesville, NY) played all 60 minutes in goal and had five saves for Nazareth. Allie Arnal (Lakewood, NY) had eight saves for Rensselaer.

The Engineers return to action on Monday, when they take on Connecticut College in West Palm Beach, Fla. (4pm).
