Engineers win all six singles matches enroute to win over the Dutchmen

TROY, N.Y. – Powered by victories in all six singles matches, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team defeated Union College, 8-1 at Sharp Courts.  The win marked the fourth straight of the season for the Engineers, who are now 4-1 overall.  The Dutchmen move to 1-1 on the season.

Rensselaer saw its first doubles pair of sophomore Jarrett Regier (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) and rookie Brandon Mazzarra (Orange, CA/Villa Park) move to 5-0 on the season with an 8-3 victory over Union's Dan Nault and Shaunak Champaneria (Cedar Grove, NJ/The Montclair Kimberly Academy).

Additonally, both were victorious in their singles flights as Regier defeated Nault, 6-0, 6-0, in the first flight, while Mazzara breezed past Champaneria in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. 

Union's lone point came in the doubles action as the second flight pair of Zaccareo and Andrew Schwartz (Orange, CT/Amity Regional) won a hard-fought, 8-6 match against RPI's Kyle Borton (Bolton, CT/Bolton) and Patrick Russo (East Northport, NY/Northport).

Both the Engineers and the Dutchmen return to the courts this weekend at the ITA Regionals, hosted by Skidmore College.  Action begins on Friday and runs through Sunday with matches beginning at 8am each day.
