CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore Julia Wright (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) scored four minutes, 56 seconds into overtime as RPI upset nationally 11th-ranked Cortland, 3-2, in a non-league contest under the lights at the Cortland Stadium Complex. The Engineers evens their record to 1-1 with the win and Cortland drops to 1-2.

Sophomore Jen Piselli (Branford, CT/Hamden Hall Country Day) blasted a ball from outside the circle during the 7 vs. 7 extra session that Wright redirected into the cage from near the left post. RPI did not lead in the contest until Wright's game winner.

Sophomore Karly Vdoviak (Johnstown) scored both of Cortland's goals. She gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead 24:03 into the game when she poked home a shot from near the cage off a short crossing pass by junior Danielle Groneman (East Islip). Vdoviak put Cortland up 2-1 with 25:37 left in regulation when she dribbled into the circle and unleashed a blast from the right side.

RPI trailed 1-0 at halftime but tied the game on an Erika Hawksley (Windsor, ME/Erskine Academy) unassisted goal from just inside the top of the circle 5:23 into the second half. The Engineers knotted the game at 2-2 with 8:27 remaining in the second half on an Alissa Peterson (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) goal, assisted by Hailee Pelland (San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch). Peterson's goal was also a hard shot from just inside the top of the arc.

Cortland missed a chance to extend its lead with 4:33 left in the first half when a penalty stroke sailed high. In overtime, Cortland took the first two shots – one was saved by a sprawling Briana Earle (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) on a breakaway and the other missed wide. RPI's first shot in the overtime was saved by Cortland junior Emily von Schondorf (Webster/Webster Thomas) and its second shot was the winning goal.

Earle finished with eight saves for RPI and von Schondorf made two saves for Cortland. The Red Dragons outshot the Engineers 16-10 and held a 9-7 edge in penalty corners.
