TROY, N.Y. – Freshman goaltender Jason Kasdorf stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced and three players recorded multiple points as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team defeated Mercyhurst University of the second time in two nights to improve to 3-5-2 overall. With the loss the Lakers drop to 3-4-1.

Kasdorf (Winnipeg, MB/Des Moines Buccaneers), who earned his first collegiate victory in his first start, made 14 saves in the second period and 13 in the third to preserve the win.

Sophomore Jacob Laliberte broke a 1-1 tie at 2:26 of the third period off a feed from the point by senior Nick Bailen (Fredonia, NY/Indiana Ice). Bailen slipped the puck down low to Laliberte, who was waiting at the far post, for his fifth of the season.

Senior Greg Burgdoerfer (East Setauket, NY/Air Force Academy) battled for his first of the season at 7:33 of the third, after classmate Marty O'Grady (London, ON/Wellington Dukes) worked the puck behind the net from the right corner. Burgdoerfer's shot from the side of the cage deflected in off the skate of a defender, making it 3-1 Engineers.

O'Grady then added an empty-net goal with 1:10 remaining to seal the victory. Freshman Mark Miller (Massena, NY/Omaha Lancers) earned the lone helper on O'Grady's first of the season.

Mercyhurst sophomore Chris Bodo (St. Thomas, ON/Pembroke Lumber Kings) stuffed in a rebound at the left side of the RPI cage to give the visitors a 1-0 lead 7:25 in the second period. Senior captain Grant Blakey (Canton, MI/Indiana Ice) took the initial shot that stopped by the right pad of Kasdorf, but Bodo was there to clean things up.

The Engineers tied the game at 15:13 of the frame, when Bailen carried the puck up the right wing and found Miller at the side of the net for the finish. The goal was Miller's first of his collegiate career.

A scoreless first period saw the Engineers hold a 12-3 edge in shots, while going 0 for 2 on the power-play. RPI did generate two shots on the man-advantage.

The Engineers are idle next weekend, but return to ECAC Hockey play on November 30 and December 1 at Princeton (7pm) and Quinnipiac (7pm), respectively. Mercyhurst is back on the ice next Friday and Saturday, when they travel to Bentley for a two-game series.
