HAMILTON, N.Y. - Colgate scored three goals in the third period, including two from Melissa Kueber, and the Raiders held off the Rensselaer women's hockey team, 3-2, in an ECAC Hockey contest at Starr Rink. With the victory Colgate is now 10-18-1 overall and 5-12-1 in the league. The Engineers, who got both goals in the third period from
Taylor Horton, fall to 8-18-4 and 5-11-2 and sit in a tie for eighth place in the standings.
Following two scoreless periods, the two teams combined for three goals in just 1:28 early in the final period. The Raiders' Rachel Walsh scored at 2:10, but RPI countered on Horton's first of the game and sixth of the year only 48 seconds later. She was assisted by
Taylor Mahoney and Alissa Harrison. Colgate needed just 40 seconds to pull ahead again, this time on Kueber's 11th goal of the season.
It was Kueber's 12th of the year that proved to be the game-winner as she scored a power play goal at 14:53. Horton made it a one-goal game with an extra-attacker goal at 19:19, but RPI could not even the score.
Kimberly Sass made 19 saves in the victory and
Kelly O'Brien stopped 15 shots in defeat.
