Track & Field Posts Several Top Tens at ECACs

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) track & field teams had numerous student-athletes post impressive scores in the final day of the ECAC Championships at The Armory. Those efforts helped the men's team to a 13th place finish, while the women placed 30th. There were 62 schools on the men's side and 57 on the women's.

RPI's top finisher of the day was sophomore Stephen Silber (Blossvale, NY / Mount Anthony Union), who was second in the high jump with a height of 6-07.50. Junior Matt Straight (Ballston Spa, NY / Ballston Spa) finished 13th in the same event with a height of 6-01.50. Junior Lindsey Rappleyea (Colts Neck, NJ / High Technology/Colts Neck) enjoyed a fourth place finish in the women's high jump (5-02.50) with sophomore Cheryl Tran (Milton, MA / Milton) landing in seventh place (5-02.50).

The men's 4x800 team of junior Joe Livote (Kings Park, NY / Kings Park), freshman Dylan Landry (Pomona, NY / North Rockland), Patrick Condon (Reading, MA / Reading Memorial) and senior Brandon Kieft (Essex Jct., VT / Essex) was fourth with a time of 7:53.00. Individually in the 500-meter dash, Landry finished 10th with a time of 1:06.32.

Junior John Scanlon (Rehoboth, MA / Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) was fifth in the 500-meters with a time of 1:05.51, while teammate Matthew Nafie (Basking Ridge, NJ / Ridge), a junior, placed 13th with a time of 1:07.01. Junior Olivia vonNieda (Ephrata, PA / Lancaster Catholic) finished 22nd in the women's 500 with a time of 1:21.57.

In the 60-meter hurdles, junior David Kastner (West Islip, NY / West Islip) posted a time of 8.50 for a seventh place finish. And in the women's weight throw, sophomore Ivy Muchuma (Nashua, NH / Nashua North) was eighth with a distance of 52-02.00.

Falling just short of top 10 finishes was sophomore Sean Quinn (Brookline, NH / Hollis Brookline), who was 11th in the 3000-meter run (8:37.38) and junior Meredith Mayes (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough), who was 11th in the women's 1000-meters (3:06.15). Freshman Tyler Gumina (Rochester, NY / Penfield) was 15th in the men's 1000-meters (2:33.20) and Condon, a junior, was 19th in the same event (2:34.12).

Senior Austin Drexler (Houston, TX / St. Thomas) competed in three events, finishing 19th in the 200-meter dash (22.99), 28th in the 60-meter dash (7.22) and 29th in the long jump.
