ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Thirteen different student-athletes scored as the Rensselaer women's lacrosse team posted a 16-0 victory over Bard College to improve to 13-1 and equal the program's single season record for wins. The Engineers are now 7-1 and remain in first place in the Liberty League. Bard falls to 5-9 and 0-7.
RPI's women's lacrosse team of 1997 set the original standard by posting a 13-3 record (6-0 in league). It went on to play in the NCAA Tournament. This year's team has one more regular season game, next Saturday at Skidmore (4pm), before playing in the league's post-season tournament.
Against the Raptors on Saturday, the Engineers scored eight goals in the first half and eight in the second in posting the victory. Senior
Emma Albert (Baldwinsville, NY / CW Baker) opened the scoring 1:43 into the contest and freshman Erin Mascucci (Windham, NH / Central Catholic) followed a minute and a half later.
Sophomore
Rachel Scofield (Albany, NY / Colonie) tallied her 25th goal of the season nine minutes into the half, before junior
Shannon Maguire (Randolph, NJ / Randolph), who assisted on Albert's goal, scored a minute later. It was Maguire's 25th goal of the year.
RPI went on to continue to control the play as it outshot Bard by a 35-3 advantage. The Engineers also won 14 of the 18 draw controls and were successful on 11 of 13 clears. The Raptors successfully cleared the ball seven of 15 attempts.
Scoring multiple goals for Rensselaer were junior
Audrey Stapleton (Barrington Hills, IL / Barrington), who had three, and freshman
Lydia Wolter (Hampton, NH / St. Thomas Aquinas), who had two goals. Five others also had multiple points, including sophomore
Meg Colitz (East Greenwich, RI / LaSalle Academy), who tallied her team-leading 32nd goal of the season with an assist.
Junior
Allie Arnal (Lakewood, NY / Phillips Exeter Academy) played the first half and earned the win, while freshman
Erin Amarello (Griswold, CT / St. Bernard School) stopped two shots in the second half. Nadine Muniz played all 60 minutes for Bard, stopping seven shots.
