TROY, N.Y. - Liana Viaggio scored the lone goal and Hannah Clough made seven saves to propel the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Kean University in a non-league game at Harkness Field. RPI improves to 4-2, while the Cougars fall to 4-5.

The Engineers got the game's only goal when Viaggio (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac), a sophomore, took a long pass about 10 yards inside the midfield line, carried the ball down the left and cut to the middle and around a defender. Her shot skipped past the goaltenders' stick side and into the lower left corner of the cage. For Viaggio, the reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Year, the goal was her second of the season.

Clough (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) made the goal stand up, stopping seven shots in the game. Among her saves was a blocker stop on a shot from Kean's Stephanie Soares (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) with under 30 seconds remaining in the second half. Clough is now 2-1 this season.

Sophomore Katie DiCarlo (Shamong, NJ/Seneca), the Cougars goalie, made three saves. She is now 1-2.

RPI is back in action on Wednesday at Liberty League foe Vassar College (4:30pm). The Cougars are at Ramapo College on Tuesday at 4pm in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest.
