WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -
The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team swept the three doubles matches and won the top five flights of singles in defeating St. Cloud State, 8-1. The Engineers improve to 5-2 on the season, including 2-1 in the spring, while the Division II Huskies fall to 3-7.
The match began with a close doubles competition at number one, which was won by RPI's Jarrett Regier (East Amherst, NY / Clarence) and Brandon Mazzara (Orange, CA / Villa Park) in a tie-break, 9-8 (7-1). The other two doubles matches were also within two games, but the Engineers pulled out the close victories. The singles matches were all straight set victories, with the exception of the fourth flight, which saw the Engineers' freshman Sherman Uyeno (Brea, CA / Brea Olinda) come-from-behind to win his match, 3-6, 6-1, 10-2.
