KISSIMMEE, Fla. -
The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team won two of the three doubles matches, including the first flight in a tie-break, and then swept the singles matches in defeating Franklin & Marshall, 8-1. The Engineers improve to 6-2, including 3-1 in the spring, while the Diplomats fall to 2-5.
"It was a big win for us today," said head coach Jon Satkowski. "We played incredible in singles; it was great to see a strong effort today. It was nice to see everyone playing hard."
For the second consecutive match, the day began with a close doubles competition at number one, which was won by RPI's Jarrett Regier (East Amherst, NY / Clarence) and Brandon Mazzara (Orange, CA / Villa Park) in a tie-break, 9-8 (7-5). Two of the six singles matches went past two sets, including Regier's at number one (6-2, 2-6, 6-3) and Andre Vorbrodt (Allendale, NJ / Northern Highlands Regional) at number six (3-6, 7-5, 10-7).
