POTSDAM, N.Y. - The season-opening, school-record winning streak for the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team came to an end on Saturday afternoon as 18th-ranked Rensselaer handed the Golden Knights their first loss of the season, 16-5, in Liberty League action at Hantz Turf Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-1 overall (2-0 Liberty), while Clarkson drops to 6-1 (1-1 Liberty).

Shannon Maguire (Randolph, NJ) powered the Engineers' offense with a career-high six points, on five goals and an assist, while classmate
Allie Arnal (Lakewood, NY) backstopped a stingy defensive effort by the visitors with eight saves.
Clarkson's leading scorer, senior Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) tallied two goals and one assist for the Knights.
RPI dominated from the start jumping out to a 10-0 lead late in the first half. Maguire scored four times in the opening 30 minutes. Sophomore
Erin Riley (West Nyack, NY) tallied twice in the half. The Knights got on the scoreboard just before intermission with a free position goal by Cristaldi with four seconds remaining.
Junior
Michelle Denny (Lusby, MD) scored her second goal of the game 40 seconds into the second half to keep the Engineers rolling.
RPI held a slim 25-23 advantage in shots and controlled groundballs 12-8. Sophomore
Jamie Wakefield (Windsor, CT) picked up a game-high three ground balls for the Engineers.

Lauren Miller (North Andover, MA) scored twice for the Engineers, while senior

Erin Pomerantz (West Nyack, NY), and freshman
Mackenzie O'Neil (Duxbury, MA) each added one goal.
Seniors Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) and Kerrie Cline (Tuxedo, NY) and freshman Christine Wright (Watertown, NY) also scored a goal apiece for Clarkson.
Junior Kara DiNatale (Auburn, NH) made five saves for the Knights.
Clarkson, at 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League, plays at St. Lawrence on Tuesday. Rensselaer is back in action on Tuesday with a non-league game at Williams.
