FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Rensselaer golf team shaved 19 strokes off its first round score and shot a two-day total of 621 to win the Farmingdale State Invitational by nine strokes. The Engineers entered the day seven strokes back but captured the title with a solid second day on the par 70, 6,850-yard Bethpage Red course. The tournament title is the fifth of the season for RPI.
The Engineers, who had team rounds of 320 and 301, placed ahead of the host Rams (314-316), NYU (313-320), Nassau Community College (315-318) and three other schools. NYU and Centenary (313-327) shared the lead after the first round.
Senior
Grant Rosener (Plano, TX / Plano West) led RPI with a two-day total of 153. He finished tied for fourth following his rounds of 76 and 77. Sophomore
Michael Souliotis (Acton, MA / Acton-Boxborough Regional) was ninth, including a three-over 73 on Saturday, while classmate
Brandon Mader (Lakeville, MN / Lakeville South) tied for 13th with a 157.
The Engineers, who are coached by
Miles Nolan, travel to Hershey Park Country Club for a tournament on Sunday and Monday.
