Box Score UNION, N.J. – The Kean University field hockey team made a third-minute goal byBridgette Bottinelli stand up for a 1-0 non-conference win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday. Kean has reached double figured in wins (10-6), while the Engineers sink to 4-9.
The Cougars opened up their early lead less than three minutes into the game. Kean got the ball into the circle in transition, and Marissa Robinson fed a pass across to the left side for Bottinelli (pictured left). The sophomore banged in her eighth goal of the season.
Despite the opening goal, RPI dictated most of the opening minutes. The Engineers took four penalty corners in the first 10 minutes without Kean taking another trip into the attacking zone.
The Cougars finally generated another scoring chance off a penalty corner later in the first half. Robinson's shot beat the goalie but Chloe Huchinson was on the goalline for the defensive save.
Moments later, Robinson repaid the Engineers with a defensive save of her own, helping to keep Kean's shutout intact into halftime. Shots were 6-6 at the break, but RPI had taken six penalty corners to the Cougars' three.
The Kean defensive line of Stephanie Rios, Shauna LaMaina, Katie-Lynne Lussier and Courtney Richard helped hold the Engineers to just one shot in the final 43 minutes; including the entirety of the second period. In the meantime, Kean racked up 10 shots to keep the field tilted heavily toward the RPI cage.
Chelsea Mann led the Cougar attack in the second period. The junior had five shots, including four on goal, to keep the Engineers pinned down.

Hannah Clough had a good game and made 10 saves, but she was outdueled by Kean'sKatie DiCarlo, who recorded her third shutout of the season.
