The Engineers close out the 2014 season with a post-season game at Framingham State University in the ECAC North Atlantic Bowl. Gametime is noon at Bowditch Field in Framingham.
FIRST MEETING
Rensselaer and Framingham have never played in football. Interestingly this matchup comes a week after RPI played Union, a school it has faced a school-record 113 times.
IN POST-SEASON
Saturday marks the 14th time in the past 23 years the Engineers will play in the post-season and its 10th ECAC appearance. RPI, which last played in an ECAC Bowl in 2010 at St. John Fisher College (56-13 loss), is 8-1 all-time in ECAC games. Rensselaer has played seven NCAA playoff games over five years, including a national semifinal appearance in 2003.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The Liberty League has announced its year-end football award winners and numerous Engineers have been recognized. They include senior kicker/punter
Andrew Franks, who was a unanimous choice as the Special Teams Player of the Year. He was on the First Team at kicker and Second Team as punter. It is the second straight season Franks was selected as Special Teams Player of the Year.
ALL-LIBERTY LEAGUE
Named to the All-Liberty League First Team from the Engineers was senior offensive lineman
Jay Yaskanich, senior defensive back
Nick Borkowski, junior defensive back
Philip Lanieri III and senior kicker
Andrew Franks. Second Team honorees were sophomore offensive lineman Steven Mills, senior defensive lineman
Chris Ohnsman, junior defensive lineman
Anthony Pilla, Franks as punter and graduate student
Reggie Colas, who was chosen as return specialist as well as in the athlete category.
WEEKLY AWARDS
Coming off a 31-28 win over Union in the Dutchman Shoes Trophy Game, two Rensselaer student-athletes were recognized with weekly awards. Senior defensive back
Nick Borkowski was named the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week, while freshman
Mike Tivinis was chosen as the Rookie of the Week by both the Liberty League and ECAC (Northwest).
ELEVENTH GAME
This season marks just the second in school history that Rensselaer has played 11 or more games. The 2003 team that advanced to the NCAA Semifinals played 13 contests, finishing 11-2.
