Live StatsTHE FACEOFF
Rensselaer (5-7-1; 4-2-0 ECAC Hockey) enters Tuesday's non-league game at New Hampshire (4-7-0; 1-4-0 Hockey East) with six straight days of rest. RPI's last action was last Tuesday, a 1-1 tie at UConn.
THE SERIES
RPI and UNH have played each other 46 times and the Wildcats lead the all-time series, 25-21-0. The former ECAC rivals first played on February 7, 1964, a 10-1 Engineers win in Troy. In 29 league games, New Hampshire had a 15-14-0 mark with the last ECAC game coming on January 14, 1984. More recently, the Wildcats have won six of the last 10 meetings, though only one of the last three head-to-head contests. UNH has won each of the last three in Durham.
TRAVEL TIME
With games at the University of Michigan this Friday and Saturday, coupled with Tuesday's game at New Hampshire, the Engineers will be on traveling by bus on Monday evening (to UNH), Tuesday night (to Troy), Wednesday afternoon (to Buffalo), Thursday morning (to Ann Arbor) and Saturday night (to Troy). From Troy to Durham, N.H., is approximately 230 miles. From Troy to Ann Arbor is 643 miles.
WELCOME BACK
The Engineers faced a rash of injuries / illness prior to heading to Connecticut last week, but both senior forward
Matt Neal and freshman defenseman
Bradley Bell returned to the lineup against the Huskies. Neal missed the previous two games, while Bell sat out the three prior. Those expected to return to the ice this week are senior defenseman
Luke Curadi (4 games missed), junior defenseman
Chris Bradley (5 games) and junior
Milos Bubela (2 games). The status of senior forward
Zach Schroeder and freshman
Lou Nanne, both of whom missed the UConn contest, and junior forward
Mark Miller, who left Tuesday's game, is still to be determined.
LAST TUESDAY
Senior
Scott Diebold stopped 33 shots and freshman
Drew Melanson scored a power play goal with only two seconds remaining in the second period as Rensselaer tied UConn, 1-1, at the XL Center. Diebold made eight saves in the first period, 10 in the second, 13 in the third and two in overtime, while Melanson notched his first collegiate tally with assists from seniors
Matt Neal and
Curtis Leonard. The Huskies, who took the lead early in the second period, got 24 saves from Rob Nichols.
NON-LEAGUE
Rensselaer is 1-5-1 in non-league games this season, including 1-0-1 against Hockey East schools.
