HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior Ryan Haggerty stuck home a rebound with 54 seconds remaining in the third period to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team to a 1-1 tie with 19th-ranked Colgate University, this evening at Starr Rink. With the draw, the Engineers move to 12-12-5 overall (6-7-4 ECAC Hockey), while the Raiders are now 14-11-4 (10-5-2 ECAC Hockey).

Haggerty (Stamford, CT/U.S. National Dev. Team) netted his team-leading 23rd goal of the season off the rebound of a shot by sophomore Mike Zalewski (New Hartford, NY/Vernon Vipers) at 19:06 of the third period. With an extra attacker on the ice, the Engineers won an offensive zone face-off before moving the puck to the point for Zalewski. His shot was stopped by the blocker of Colgate freshman netminder Charlie Finn (North Vancouver, BC/Kingston Voyaguers), before it fell to Haggerty for the goal.

Rensselaer nearly snuck home the game-winner with 19 seconds left, but the puck was ruled to have been frozen before crossing the goal line. Zalewski and freshman Jimmy DeVito (Bloomingdale, IL/Lincoln Stars) then turned in the only two shots of the overtime session as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Colgate John Lidgett (Calgary, AB/Camrose Kodiaks) opened the scoring at 15:48 of the first period, redirecting a shot by sophomore Kevin Lough (Kanata, ON/Cumberland Grads) through the legs of RPI junior netminder Scott Diebold (Buffalo, NY/Tri-City Storm) for his first goal of the year. A secondary helper went to Senior Mike McCann (Barrington, IL/Salisbury School).

Diebold (11-11-5) made 23 saves for the Engineers, while Finn (11-5-3) stopped 41, including 16 in the third period alone. RPI (0-4) and Colgate (0-5) both went scoreless on the power-play.

The Engineers are back on the ice tomorrow night, when they visit 11th-ranked Cornell (7pm). Colgate hosts third-ranked Union (7pm).
