Men's Indoor Posts Five Wins at League Meet

CANTON, N.Y. - Five Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes were first in their respective events and four others posted runner-up finishes to help the Engineers to second place at the Liberty League Championship Meet at St. Lawrence University.

St. Lawrence University sophomore Harrison Sloan won the 800 and mile and anchored the Saints' winning 4x400 relay with a dramatic final leg, earning the 2014 Liberty League Track Performer of the Meet Award and leading St. Lawrence to its first Liberty League indoor track and field championship since 2011 at the Newell Field House.

The Saints finished with 202 points with RPI second at 173, defending champion RIT was third with 101 and Union fourth with 42.

Sloan was joined by RIT double winner Marquis Moore, who was champion in the triple jump at 14.40 meters and the long jump at 6.86 meters, who was the Field Performer of the Meet and Saint freshman Karim Creary second in the 60 and 200 meters and anchor on the Saints winning 4x200 relay, who was the Rookie of the Meet.

Sloan won the mile in 4:16.65, the 800 in 1:57.21 and nipped RPI's Dylan Landry at the tap to lead the Saints to a 3:27.59 win in the 4x400. He was joined on the relay by Chris Payton, Dan Viscardi and Dennis Korir.

Other meet champions included Saint freshman Thomas Caulfield who won the 5000 in 15:13.97, Landry of RPI with a 51.65 win in the 400, RIT's Jared Athias who won the 60 hurdles in 8.68, SLU senior Omaru Kabia with a 7.04 to meters, Union senior Tosin Kazeem with a 22.61 200 meters and RPI's Bobby Parker with a Liberty League record 8:36.53 in the 3000 meters.

The Saint team of Adrian Wilson, Omaru Kabia, Shawn Lillie and Creary won the 4x200 in 1:32.83, and RPI's Tyler Gumina, Sam Waddell, Zach Vanderzee and Benjamin Fazio won the Distance Medley Relay in 10:41.10. Devan Hayes of RPI won the weight throw at 16.38 meters RIT's Joe Cronin cleared 4.40 meters to win the pole vault, SLU senior Brian Kane won the high jump at 1.94 meters and RPI senior Zac Borrelli won the shot with a 14.95 meter throw in addition to Moore's win in the jumps.
