ITA National Ranking (March 13)
WHITTIER, Calif. - In a showdown of nationally-ranked men's tennis programs, No. 21 Whittier College defeated No. 30 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 5-4, in a match in California.
Whittier won two of the three doubles matches and then captured each of the top three singles matches in straight sets for the win. The Poets improve to 5-3, while the Engineers fall to 5-2.
Rensselaer saw sophomore
Sherman Uyeno (Brea, CA / Brea Olinda) earn two victories. He teamed with
Graham Harris (Reno, NV / Galena) for a 9-7 doubles win and he took victory at No. 5 singles in three sets, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 10-5. Freshman
McKinley Grimes (Bedford, NH / Bedford) also won his singles match in three sets, taking No. 4 by a count of 7-6, 2-6, 10-6.
RPI closes out its Spring Break trip on the West Coast with a match against Cal. Tech. on Friday at 6pm (EDT).
