GLENDALE, Calif. -
Jarrett Regier and
Brandon Mazzara both earned victories in singles and doubles to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team to a 5-4 win over Occidental College in the Engineers' Spring Break opener at Scholl Canyon Golf and Tennis Club. RPI, which is ranked 30th in the nation, improves to 4-1. Occidental, ranked 12th in its region, is now 1-5.
Regier (East Amherst, NY / Clarence) and Mazzara (Orange, CA / Villa Park)Â teamed up to win at first doubles, 8-5, before winning their individual matches. A senior, Regier won a No. 2, 6-2, 6-3, while Mazzara, a junior, needed three sets to win his match, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.Â
Rensselaer won two of the three doubles matches and three of the six singles matches.
