RPI Athletics on FacebookTROY, N.Y. - Playing outdoors for the first time in the Northeast this spring, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) posted a 9-0 victory over Union College in a matchup of Liberty League opponents at Sharp Courts. The Engineers, the 11th-ranked team in the Northeast Region, improve to 9-2. They are 8-1 this spring, including four straight victories. The Dutchmen fall to 1-5.
RPI won all nine matches in straight sets, with five student-athletes earning two victories. Among them was senior
Jarrett Regier, who teammed with
Brandon Mazzara to take No. 1 doubles, 8-5, and then posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.
Sherman Uyeno won at No. 3 doubles, 8-6 with
Graham Harris, and No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
The Engineers are back in action on Saturday at Vassar College, which is ranked 17th in the region, at 2pm. Union hosts RIT on April 12 in Schenectady (3pm).
