Men's Tennis Moves into League Semifinals

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team opened the Liberty League Championship Tournament with a 5-0 win over Rochester Institute of Technolgy (RIT). The Engineers are the second seed and the Tigers the seventh seed.

RPI swept the doubles, including a 9-7 win by freshmen Matt LaBarre and McKinley Grimes at No. 2, for a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Anthony Kim won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 7-5, and junior Brandon Mazzara won his at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2,to close it out. The Engineers were leading in all three of the other singles matches that began, but they were unfinished due to Rensselaer reaching five points.

RPI plays third-seeded Vassar College, 5-0 winners over sixth-seeded Union College, on Saturday. The match will be held indoors at the University of Rochester at 2pm.
