It all started on February 25, 1978, with a 6-5 overtime win over New Hampshire and the Big Red Freakout! has been the hottest ticket in the Capital Region ever since. Steve Stoyanovich was the star of the first game, scoring a hat trick and adding an assist as the Engineers. RPI is 21-11-5 all-time in Freakouts!, including a 17-game unbeaten streak (12-0-5) from 1990 to 2007. Last season, Rensselaer defeated Brown, 4-1, before a sold out crowd of 4,820. RPI, which has won three of the last four Freakouts!, has played Yale in four Freakouts!, winning twice (1985, 2011) and losing twice (1989, 2009).
