Fan ShopGLENDALE, Calif. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team concluded its Spring Break trip in California with another impressive outing, defeating Glendale Community College, 8-1. The Engineers won three of four matches on the West Coast and return to the Capital Region with an overall mark of 8-3. GCC is now 7-9.
Each of the seven matches that were completed were done so in straight sets, including RPI's
Alain Grullon Gonzalez and
Sherman Uyeno posting identical 6-3, 6-0 wins at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively. The No. 1 singles match was won by the Engineers'
McKinley Grimes by disqualification after his opponent was ejected due to poor behavior. In doubles, RPI had wins of 8-3, 8-3 and 8-0.
RPI, which is ranked 16th in the region, returns to action when it travels to the University of Hartford on Sunday.
