RPI Athletics on InstagramGENEVA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and then captured five of six singles matches in defeating Hobart College, 7-2, in a Liberty League contest inside Bristol Field House. With the win, the Engineers improve to 9-3 while the Statesmen drop to 8-5.
Alain Grullon Gonzalez and
Tristan Wise partnered at No. 2 doubles and prevailed in a close match, 9-8. The No. 3 team ofÂ
Sherman Uyeno and
Graham Harris had an easier time of it as they won by an 8-2 count.Â
Of RPI's five singles matches, four were won in straight sets, with the exception being Gonzalez, who needed three sets to win at No. 4 (6-3, 3-6, 10-8). The Engineers' lone loss in singles, at No. 2, also went to three sets with Michael Fields of Hobart coming back to knock off
Brandon Mazzara, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Engineers remain in Western New York to face the University of Rochester on Sunday at 2pm.
