RPI Athletics on YouTubePOUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match, defeating Vassar College, 5-4, in a Liberty League contest on the Joss Tennis Courts. The Engineers, who are ranked 14th in the Northeast Region, improve to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in the Liberty League. The Brewers, the 19th-ranked team in the Northeast, are now 6-9 and 2-2.
RPI jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles when its No.2 and No. 3 teams ofÂ
Tristan Wise (Lakeway, TX / Lake Travis) &
Alain Grullon Gonzalez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / St. Michael's School) &Â
Sherman Uyeno (Brea, CA / Brea Olinda)Â &
Graham Harris (Reno, NV / Galena)Â won 8-5 and 8-3, respectively.
Wise, a freshman, then won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4 and Uyeno, a junior, captured victory at No. 4 singles.
Stephen Baxter (Carmel, IN / Carmel)Â also won his singles match, defeating Alexander Luckmann at No. 6, 6-1, 6-3.
The Engineers, who last lost on March 23, host Hamilton College on Sunday at 2pm at Sharp Courts in Troy.
