TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team is the second seed heading into this weekend's Liberty League Championship, which takes place beginning on Saturday at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. Head coach Jon Satkowski and his team face third-seeded Vassar College at 6pm with the winner advancing to take on either top-seeded Skidmore College, the 30th-ranked team in the nation, or fourth-seeded Hobart College.

Rensselaer, which is ranked 14th in the Northeast Region, narrowly defeated the Brewers, who are 19th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) regional ranking, 5-4, on April 18 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Engineers won two of the three doubles points and No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. That victory is part of RPI's current seven-match winning streak, which has pushed its record to 13-3 with a 6-1 league mark. Rensselaer's only conference loss was to Skidmore, 6-3 on March 8. The Engineers defeated Hobart, 7-2 on April 11 in Geneva, N.Y.

Sophomore McKinley Grimes (Bedford, NH / Bedford) plays No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. The Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Year last season, he is 13-9 in singles and 16-8 in doubles, teaming with senior captain Brandon Mazzara (Orange, CA / Villa Park). Mazzara plays No. 2 singles, posting a record of 6-15.

Freshman Tristan Wise (Lakeway, TX / Lake Travis) is the No. 3 singles player, going 11-10, and on the No. 2 doubles squad with junior Alain Grullon Gonzalez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / St. Michael's School). The tandem is 11-3, including 9-1 in their last 10 matches. Gonzalez is 11-8 in singles, including 8-4 at No. 4. He has seven wins in his last 10 decisions.

Junior Sherman Uyeno (Brea, CA / Brea Olinda) has Rensselaer's top singles record at 16-4 with nine consecutive victories. He is 13-2 in dual matches, including 4-0 at No. 4, 7-0 at No. 5 and 2-2 at No. 6. Uyeno teams with Graham Harris (Reno, NV / Galena) in doubles and they are 15-1 overall and 13-1 in dual matches. The duo is 12-1 at No. 3 doubles with a 9-1 mark in their last 10.

Rounding out Rensselaer's lineup is sophomore Stephen Baxter (Carmel, IN / Carmel) at No. 6 singles. He is 12-8 overall, 7-6 in dual matches and 6-3 while playing No. 6.

The team that wins the Liberty League Tournament earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
