SURPRISE, Ariz. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and
Zack Ebenfeld played their second and third round matches at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Oracle Cup and the freshman duo finished eighth in the tournament.
In their second round match against Johns Hopkins University seniors Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh, Castillo-Sanchez and Ebenfeld fell behind 1-2 and then dropped the next four games of the first set. The second set was tied 3-3 after six games, but the Blue Jays team won the next three for a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
The seventh place match came against Luke Elifson and Martin Beck of the University of St. Thomas and two sets was not enough. The two teams played a super tiebreaker with the Tommie pair coming from behind and prevailing, 7-5, 5-7, 10-7. Castillo-Sanchez and Ebenfeld were ahead 6-2 in the tiebreak, but could not hold off their opponents.
