MEET TIME (OCTOBER 22, 2016): The Engineers kick off the 2016-17 schedule with a meet against RIT in Troy.
2015-16 REVISITED: Rensselaer's men went 7-0 in dual meet competition last season, along with winning the Liberty League Championship Meet and finishing second in the New York State Championship Meet ... The Engineers also won their own meet, the RPI Kumpf Invitational in what was one of the best seasons in school history ... The women are coming off a year in which the team set a school record by going 7-0 in dual meets, finished second in the league championship meet and were the New York State Championship Meet runner-up.
WELCOME BACK: RPI's men's team returns 16 student-athletes from a season ago, including 11 sophomores ... The women have five seniors, seven juniors and five sophomores who are back this year.
WELCOME: Rensselaer's women have three freshmen, while the men have 14 newcomers.
FIREPOWER: RPI's women's team returns each of its top six point producers from last season, led by junior
Shanny Lin, a two-time National All-America in the butterfly, who had 18 wins and 335 points ... The men's top three scorers, headed up by
Richard Dong, are back.
CAPTAINS CHOSEN: Rensselaer's women's team will be captained by
Anna Drechsler,
Annika Lindstrom, Barbara Long and
Siena Sara ... Drechsler and Lindstrom are second-year captains, while this is the first season in that role for Long and Sara ... All four student-athletes are seniors ... The men have two captains, both seniors in their first seasons in doing so ... They are
Richard Dong and
Andrew Klobucher.
LIN NAMED: CollegeSwimming.com announced its 2016-17 Division III Pre-Season All-America selections and RPI student-athlete
Shanny Lin was tabbed in the 200 butterfly ... Last year as a sophomore, Lin earned National All-America in the 200 butterfly after finishing in fourth place at the NCAA Championship Meet - for the second consecutive season - with a time of 2:01.19.
ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: As part of the athletic department's annual Welcome Back Ice Cream Social in late August, the 2015-16 year-end student-athlete awards - Freshman of the Year, Athlete of the Year and Richard S. Lyons Career Athlete - were announced and
Shanny Lin collected one of the most prestigious student-athlete awards the department hands out with the Female Athlete of the Year award ... In addition to earning National All-America, she set the 200 butterfly records for Robison Pool, Rensselaer, the Liberty League, the Upstate New York State Collegiate Swimming Association (UNYSCSA) and at the UNYSCSA Championship Meet ... She also earned Liberty League All-Academic, New York State All-Academic, CSCAA Scholar All-America, CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and CoSIDA National Academic All-America Women's At-Large Third Team.
O'BRIEN CHOSEN: Head men's and women's swimming coach Shannon O'Brien was selected by her peers as the co-recipient of the athletic department's Marvin Anderson Award, presented to the Coach of the Year, for the success her teams had in 2015-16 ... She shared the honor with
John Lynch, the men's and women's cross country coach.Â
SMART TEAMS: The CSCAA recognized the Rensselaer men's and women's teams as a 2015-16 Division III Scholar All-America Team for their academic achievements ... The women boasted a team cumulative grade point average of 3.47 for the Spring 2016 semester, while the men had a 3.03 ... The women's mark is first among Rensselaer's 23 teams.Â
BRIGHT STUDENTS: RPI had two student-athletes earn CSCAA Scholar All-America, while three others were Honorable Mention ... Scholar All-America - for the second straight year - were
Shanny Lin and
Danielle Sauve ...
David Connor,
Siena Sara and

LAST YEAR VS. RIT:Â
RPI posted victories in 23 of 32 events on their way to sweeping RIT in a season-opening dual meet ... Rensselaer's women won all but five events in a 182-113 win, while the men hit the wall first in 12 of 16 events on their way to a 180-118 victory.
