PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team captured all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead and the Engineers went on to win each of the singles matches in sweeping Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), 9-0, in a Liberty League contest. The Engineers, who featured a new lineup, have now won four straight matches and are 5-6. RPI is 2-1 in the conference. The Tigers fall to 2-5 and 1-1.
RPI played with three new doubles pairings, but felt no ill effects as each won. The No. 1 team of
Tristan Wise and
Sherman Uyeno and the No. 3 team of
Sundar Devakottai and
Anthony Kim both posted 8-3 wins.
Alain Grullon Gonzalez and
Graham Harris won 8-1 at No. 2.
Wise, a sophomore, then made his debut at No. 1 singles and won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2. His teammates followed suit, also winning in straight sets with the exception of freshman
Suryansh Patel, who won No. 6 with a pro-set 8-5 victory.Â
Rensselaer hosts two Liberty League matches next weekend as St. Lawrence and Vassar come to Troy on Saturday and Sunday. Both matches begin at 1pm at Sharp Courts.
