TROY, N.Y. - The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team won two of the three doubles matches and then five of the six singles to defeat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 7-2, in a Liberty League match at Sharp Courts. The Saints improve to 7-6 overall and 4-0 in the conference with the victory, which was their fourth in the last five matches. RPI saw its winning steak snapped at four matches and drops to 5-7 overall. The Engineers are 2-2 in the league.

RPI took a 1-0 lead when its top doubles pair of Tristan Wise and Alain Grullon Gonzalez posted an 8-3 victory, but St. Lawrence jumped in front with wins in the next two matches. The team of Paul Barrett and Dean Sponholz won at No. 3, 8-3, before the No. 2 team of Spencer Whitmire and Rhonny Rosario eked out a 9-8 (5) win. 

The visitors made it a 3-1 lead when RPI's No. 6 singles player, Gabe Osio, was forced to default due to injury, but Wise pulled Rensselaer to within two with a win at No. 1, 6-1, 6-3. The Saints posted victories in each of the final four matches, including two three-setters, for the overall win. 

The Engineers host Vassar College on Sunday at 1pm, while St. Lawrence faces Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on Sunday at 1pm. Both matches are Liberty League contests.
