ITHACA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team won all thre doubles matches and then the first two singles matches to defeat St. Lawrence University, 5-0, and advance to the Liberty League Championship Match on Sunday at 10am. The third-seeded Engineers, who have won four straight matches, face top-seeded Skidmore College in Sunday's final. The winner earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
At the Reis Tennis Center, sophomore
Tristan Wise and senior
Sherman Uyeno both posted 2-0 records. After partnering for a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles and a 3-0 lead, they won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Uyeno put the Engineers ahead 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 and Wise clinched the contest with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1. The singles win was the seventh in a row for Wise.
In the other doubles matches, seniors
Graham Harris and
Alain Grullon Gonzalez posted an 8-1 win at No. 2 and
Suryansh Patel, a freshman, and
Anthony Kim, a senior, won 8-5.
Skidmore advanced to the final with a 5-0 win over fourth-seeded Hobart College.Â
