GAMEDAY: Rensselaer plays its second game of the season - and first hoem contest - hosting No. 20 Mount Holyoke in a non-league contest.

GAME 1: Rensselaer amassed 25 shots with 18 on goal, but the Engineers fell at Hartwick, 2-1 ... The Hawks got 16 saves from Shannon Carter and a defensive save from Maggie Stauble to thwart RPI's attack ... Sophomore Taylor Clink scored RPI's lone goal, tying the game at 1-1 in the first half ... Classmate Mikaela DiBello had seven shots, four of which were on goal ... Hartwick took the lead with 14:10 to go in the first stanza when Maxine Dunn rattled off a shot that found its way across the goal line ... Clink tied the game at 22:39 off of a Megan Jones' penalty corner ...  Clink sailed a shot in from the top of the circle into the cage ... Following a defensive save, Allyson Quirk collected a pass from Sarah Ryan and scored while cutting  down the middle ... Sophomore Kayla Bell made three first half stops with none in the second for the Engineers.

SEASON OPENERS: The loss on Thursday dropped the Engineers record in the first game of the year over the last decade to 3-7 ... Two of those games have been against Hartwick, three have been against Montclair State and two have come against Keene State.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Mount Holyoke, which is ranked 20th in the NFHCA Preseason Poll, opens its season against the Engineers ... The Lyons, who were 15-7 in 2015, are led by 18th-year head coach Andy Whitcomb.

LAST SEASON VS. MOUNT HOLYOKE: Megan Jones tallied with 58 seconds remaining to lift the Rensselaer to a 2-1 win over No. 14 Mount Holyoke ... After being unable to convert on two penalty corner chances, Mount Holyoke found itself in trouble late as the Engineers were given a corner in the 69th minute ... Injecting was Jones, who fired the ball to the top of the arc to senior forward Hana Murphy ... Murphy sent a shot back into traffic, which was tipped by sophomore forward Jena Nawfel and back on to the stick of Jones for the goal at the right side ... The Lyons were awarded a penalty corner with seconds to go, but the ball was redirected in traffic, going just past the box ... Nawfel scored in the seventh minute to give RPI an early lead ...  Rachel Kaufman was outstanding, stopping 12 shots and Taylor Clink made a defensive save ... Liz DiCesare had nine stops for the home team.

HOME DEBUTS: Over the past 10 years, the Engineers are 6-4 in their first game on Harkness Field, including two wins in their last three years ... They defeated Hartwick in 2015 and 2013 and lost to Mount Holyoke in 2014.

COMMON OPPONENT: Hartwick has been RPI's first home game five times over the past 10 years ... Rensselaer is 4-1 in those contests.

TOUGH SCHEDULE: Of the 17 opponents on Rensselaer's schedule this season, six of them are nationally-ranked and a seventh (New Paltz) is receiving votes in the NFHCA Preseason Poll.

2016 CAPTAINS: Senior midfielders Claire Cecilio, Colleen Fowler and Colleen Morris are Rensselaer's captains ... Cecilio has played 17 games - all as a starter - in each of her first three years, tallying three goals and two assists with 40 shots, including 21 on goal ... Fowler had three goals and two assists for eight points - all career-highs - last season and now has six goals and two assists for 14 points in 38 career contests ... In 12 games in 2015, Morris had a goal on seven shots (5 on goal) following earning an assist with four shots in 17 games as a sophomore.
