Steven Collins is Academic All-America For Second Time

Senior captain picked to Third Team by CoSIDA

TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Steven Collins has been selected to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Men's Soccer Academic All-All-America Division III Third Team, it was announced today.

Collins, who becomes the 10th Academic All-America honoree in program history, was a First Team selection in 2016.

A two-time captain and senior midfielder from Flemington, N.J, Collins started all 16 games for the Engineers this season, earning Liberty League Honorable Mention. He collected a goal and two assists for four points. Averaging 85.6 minute per match, he took 21 shot attempts, including 12 on goal. Scoring in the season-opener against New Paltz - a 2-1 Engineers victory - he also picked up assists in two other Rensselaer wins (Rhode Island College and Keene State).

Now a three-time all-district selection, Collins is a dual chemical engineering quantitative finance major, earning an economics minor with a 3.92 cumulative grade point average. A two-time Academic All-America and three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection, he has worked as a research assistant in the Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing labs. A member of Rensselaer's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, the Hunterdone Central Regional High School graduate has worked with Circle-K as a volunteer and is the Scholarship Chair at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Collins, who was a standout at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, concluded his career with 67 games at Rensselaer, including 54 as a starter. He had five goals and our assists for 14 point, with 56 shots, including 24 on target, helping the team to two Liberty League Tournament appearances. RPI reached the NCAA Tournament once during his stay, advancing to the Second Round in 2015.

The Engineers posted a 8-6-2 overall record this season with a 3-4-2 mark in Liberty League play.
