ORLANDO, Fla. - Freshman
Xavier Oshinowo won a super tiebreaker at No. 2 singles to break a 4-4 tie and give the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) a 5-4 victory over Franklin & Marshall College in a non-league match at the USTA National Campus.
Oshinowo won the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (1) before his opponent, Isaac Salas bounced back for a 6-3 win in the second. The match went to a third set super tiebreak, which Oshinowo pulled out while playing in a drizzle, 10-5. The match was delayed twice due to rain.
RPI jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles, including a tiebreak victory at No. 2 by
Tristan Wise and
Winston Yu. The Diplomats gained the lead, 4-2, with wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, but the Engineers won the final three for the overall victory. They are now 4-0, while F&M is 0-2.
