GAMEDAY: The Engineers (3-0) play their fourth game and second road contest - all non-league - with a trip to Buffalo State College (2-0) of the Empire 8.
 
SECOND MEETING: Rensselaer and Buffalo State have faced each other only once, a 20-13 RPI victory in the 2015 Asa S. Bushnell Bowl in New Britain, Conn.
 
FAST START: The Engineers have defeated William Paterson (45-0), WPI (36-14) and Western New England (31-14) in their first three games ... It is the first time since 2003, 
Ralph Isernia's first, that RPI has won its first three games ... That team finished 5-5.
 
FOUR STRAIGHT: Rensselaer last won its first four games of a season in 2008 when it actually went 7-0 to start ... That team finished 8-2 with a win in an ECAC Playoff Game, 34-31, over Alfred in the final game on '86 Field.
 
RECEIVING VOTES: The Engineers are among the team receiving votes in both the D3football.com Poll (11 points) as well as the AFCA Poll (9 points).
 
RPI LAST WEEK: Junior 
Nick Cella ran for 98 yards and a touchdown and two others had rushing touchdowns for RPI, which defeated Western New England, 31-14, in Troy ... Cella had game-highs of 20 carries and 98 yards to lead Rensselaer, which had 242 yards and three scores out of the backfield ... Nine different players had positive rushing yards, including senior 
Ethan Wells, who contributed 57 yards and a 9-yard touchdown on 17 carries. ... 
Maliek Kelly added nine yards with a 6-yard score ... 
Bryan Hayes led all players with 13 tackles (6 solo) and a pass breakup ... 
Jack Hoggard had nine stops (4 solo) and a fumble recovery and defensive lineman 
Diego Cuitino made seven tackles (2 solo).
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL: 
Bryan Hayes, a safety, and 
Christian Kapp, a kicker, were both named to the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts against Western New England ... Hayes led all players with 13 tackles (6 unassisted) and a pass breakup ... Kapp was successful on his only field goal attempt, a 32-yarder late in the fourth quarter (31-14 lead), and each of his four extra point attempts ... He also had six kickoffs for 372 yards, an average of 62.0 yards ... Two kickoffs went for touchbacks.
WEEK 2: Junior 
Ed Trimpert amassed 234 yards on 11 for 17 passing and five touchdowns and senior 
Sean Egan accounted for three of six WPI turnovers as RPI reclaimed the Transit Trophy with a 36-14 victory in Alumni Stadium ... Senior 
Mike Tivinis ran for 88 yards on 13 chances as Trimpert connected with five different receivers ... Senior linebacker 
Brandt Beck totaled 10 tackles, including two for loss and an interception ... 
Paul Marinan also had two stops for loss.
 
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Following a game in which he tied the school record with three interceptions, 
Sean Egan was chosen to the D3football.com National Team of the Week ... In a 36-14 victory at WPI in the Transit Trophy Game, Egan a cornerback, had two solo tackles, three interceptions with three return yards and two pass breakups ... A captain, he and the defense held the Engineers to just 67 yards rushing on 26 carries (2.6 average) and only seven points until a late fourth quarter score (2:38 remaining).
 
HONORED: Junior quarterback 
Ed Trimpert was chosen as the Offensive Performer of the Week by the Liberty League ... 
Christian Kapp was named the Special Teams Performer of the Week ... Trimpert completed 11 of 17 passes for a career-high 234 yards and five touchdowns - to five different receivers ... He was not intercepted and he finished with three rushing yards ... His touchdown passes were from 5, 26, 33, 15 and 10 yards ... In total, six different receivers caught passes ... Kapp, a senior kicker, was honored after making four of his extra point attempts and scoring on a two-point conversion after picking up a loose ball off a blocked attempt and rushing it into the end zone ... He also had six kickoffs for 371 yards (61.0 average) with five of them going for touchbacks.
 
HONOR ROLL: 
Brandt Beck was chosen to the league's Weekly Honor Roll after leading all tacklers with 10 stops - all unassisted - with 2.0 for lost yards (4), a forced fumble and an interception with a 38-yard return at WPI ... His interception ended a long drive (12 plays) and set up Rensselaer's first score ... His forced fumble came in the third quarter at the RPI 41 yard line ... Beck also helped hold the Engineers to just 67 yards rushing on 26 carries (2.6 average).
 
THREE PICKS: Senior 
Sean Egan intercepted a school record-tying three passes in Saturday's win at WPI ... It was the 13th time an Engineers player has had three picks in a game ... The most recent prior to Saturday was by Tim Acker against WPI in 2007.
               
GAME 1: RPI gained 493 yards of offense while holding William Paterson to 51 yards, including only seven through the air, in defeating the Pioneers, 45-0, in the season opener for both teams ... Rensselaer jumped out to a 7-0 lead on its first possession when Tivinis scored at 11:50 of the first quarter ... Following a 
Rory McCarthy interception, Ed  Trimpert hit 
Rob Law from four yards out just over two minutes later for a 14-0 edge ... 
Ethan Wells scored his first of two touchdowns with 3:14 to play in the first quarter and 
Christian Kapp kicked a 23-yard field goal as time expired in the first half ... RPI added 14 points in the third quarter, including a 45-yard touchdown pass from Trimpert to 
Pat Etter, and one in the fourth.
 
HONORED: Junior quarterback 
Ed Trimpert was named the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week after he completed 11 of 14 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns against William Paterson ... He threw a four-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead and then a 45-yard scoring strike in the third for a 31-0 edge ... He was neither intercepted, nor sacked ... Trimpert also rushed six times for 31 yards, including a long of 15 yards.

Christian Kapp, a kicker ... Joseph had six total tackles with three unassisted and 2.0 for lost yards (5) ... Kapp was recognized after connecting on his only field goal attempt, a 23-yard try to end the first half, and each of his six extra point attempts ... He also had seven kickoffs for 445 yards (63.6 per) with one kickoff for a touchback.
 
TOTAL EXCEEDED: RPI quarterbacks 
Ed Trimpert (5) and 
Tommy Avery (2) combined to throw seven touchdowns in 11 games last season ... Trimpert has thrown eight touchdowns in the first three games of this season.
 
2015 VS BUFFALO STATE: Austin Amery scored the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter as RPI scored 17 unanswered points in defeating Buffalo State 20-13 in the Asa S. Bushnell Bowl Championship at Arute Field on the campus of Central Connecticut State University ... With the score tied at 13-13, Amery, a slotback, took a pitch to the left and scampered untouched into the end zone from 17 yards out with 5:18 to play in the fourth quarter, giving Rensselaer its first lead since a 3-0 advantage after the opening drive ... The senior finished with 26 rushing yards on two carries and game-highs of eight catches for 89 yards to earn the Most Outstanding Player Award ... The Engineers fought back from a 13-3 deficit with the help of its defense, which allowed only 38 rushing yards and 115 through the air ... RPI finished with 4.5 tackles for lost yards (41), 3.0 sacks for 30 yards - all by senior Anthony Pilla - and three interceptions ... Senior Mark Grimes led all Rensselaer defensive players with 10 tackles, including eight unassisted and 1.0 for a loss (1 yard) ... Pilla had eight stops with seven solos, 5.0 behind the line of scrimmage (34 yards lost), the three sacks, a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry ... Johnson led the Bengals offense with two receptions for 68 yards and a 13-yard rush ... Dale Stewart had 50 yards on the ground on 15 carries ... Shaq Frederick led the defense with 15 tackles, including seven unassisted and one for a loss (4 yards) ... He also recovered a fumble with a 10-yard return.
 
BUFFALO STATE THIS YEAR: The Bengals began the season with a 20-19 win over Bridgewater State on September 2 and then they defeated Morrisville State 53-48 in their Empire 8 opener last weekend on the road ... Kyle Hoppy connected with Had Bryant for a 41-yard touchdown with 57 seconds remaining to lift Buffalo State on Saturday.
