Final Brackets
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Playing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman
Brian Niguidula posted two victories on Sunday to capture the D Flight Singles at the Middlebury Invitational. The top seed, Niguidula defeated Armaan Kalra of Tufts University in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-3, and Kevin Ha of Skidmore College in the finals, 6-3, 6-2, for the title.
Also competing in the semifinals for the Engineers was freshman
Andrew Imrie, who was beaten by Benjamin Biswas of Tufts, the eventual champion in the C Flight, 6-0, 6-3.
RPI also had three individuals and two doubles teams play in the backdraw with each earning wins. Senior
Tristan Wise defeated a foe from Hamilton College, 9-8 (9-7), sophomore
Zack Ebenfeld won over an opponent from Skidmore, 3-6, 6-2, 11-9, and
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez, another sophomore, also beat a student-athlete from Skidmore, 6-3, 6-3.
Wise and
McKinley Grimes won a doubles match against a team from Hamilton, 8-4, and
Winston Yu and
Sundar Devakottai beat a tandem from Brandeis, 8-6.
Rensselaer returns to action next weekend at the ITA Regional Championship.
