ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team returned to action for the first time since mid-October and the Engineers posted an 8-1 victory over the University of Rochester on Saturday. Rensselaer improves to 1-0 in dual meets in 2017-18, while Rochester is now 2-4 with five of those matches coming this month.
Three Engineers posted two victories apiece to pace the visitors. Sophomore
Zack Ebenfeld and
McKinley Grimes won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, before earning wins at No. 4 (7-5, 6-2) and No. 5 (6-1, 6-3) singles. Freshman
Brian Niguidula followed his win at No. 3 doubles with playing partner
Tristan Wise, 8-2, with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
RPI returns to the court on Sunday when it faces RIT in a Liberty League contest in Western New York (1pm).
