SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The No. 27 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team won all three doubles matches as well as singles matches Nos. 1-4 in defeating Union College, 7-2, in its regular season finale. RPI, which has clinched the second seed in the Liberty League Tournament, improves to 13-3 overall and 7-1 in the conference. The Dutchmen, who have two matches remaining, fall to 3-12 and 1-6.
The Engineers captured the doubles by only dropping a combined eight games before winning their four singles matches in straight sets. The No. 1 team of
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and
Andrew Imrie were victorious 8-3 before they both won in singles. Castillo-Sanchez, a sophomore, won at No. 1, 6-3, 6-0, while Imrie, a freshman, captured No. 2, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7).
Rensselaer is now idle until May 5 when they play in the Liberty League Tournament Semifinals against an opponent to be determined.
