TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team travels to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, to face either Stevens Institute of Technology or Salem State College in an NCAA Second Round match on Friday at 2:30pm. The opponent for the Engineers, who are making their first national tournament appearance, will be determined beginning at 2:30pm on Thursday.
RPI, which is coached by
Jon Satkowski, is 15-3 and ranked 27th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. It earned an automatic bid into the NCAAs by winning the Liberty League Championship - it's first. Rensselaer has not played Salem State this year, but did face the Ducks of Stevens in Orlando in March. In that match, the doubles tandem of
McKinley Grimes and
Zack Ebenfeld won at No. 2 and then both individuals captured their singles matches, winning at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. The Engineers also won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
On the other side of the bracket this week, No. 3 Bowdoin awaits the winner of the match between Ramapo College of New Jersey and Yeshiva University. The host Polar Bears, who won the 2016 NCAA Championshiop, enter the event with the best record in Division III (19-1). They played in the national semifinals last season.

The winner of the regional final advances to the Elite Eight, which is to be held May 21-26 at The Biszantz Family Tenns Center in Claremont, California, with Claremont- Mudd-Scripps as the host.
