TROY, N.Y. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its annual All-Academic Teams and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's programs were recognized. Additionally, five individuals -
James Anderson,
Joe Grella, Jaime Lord,
Grant O'Connor, Lauren Parker &
Matt Vitagliano - were honored.
The Engineers earned All-Academic Team recognition after posting grade point averages of 3.27 (men) and 3.44 (women). Recognition is based on a minimum GPA of 3.0 by the squad.
Forty-nine of the 71 members of the men's team had a grade point average of at least 3.0 in the Spring 2018 semester with 35 earning a 3.5 or better. Eight student-athletes had perfect 4.0s. A conference-best 28 men were named to the Liberty League All-Academic squad. For the women, there were 20 who earned All-Academic last year. The Engineers boasted 39 of 48 with a 3.0 or better and 27 who earned a 3.5 or better. Three had 4.0s.
The six individuals who were selected to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team included two juniors and four seniors.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards: 1.) Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or 2.) Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
