MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's outdoor track & field team opened the 2026 outdoor season with a strong all-around performance at Wesleyan, highlighted by five event victories on the track and in the field.
RPI's sprint group set the tone early with a dominant showing in the 100 meters, where
Cameron Caso led the field with a winning time of 10.81 seconds, followed closely by
Ronen Stewart, who placed second in 10.94. The Engineers added depth in the event with
Gabriel Sicurella finishing seventh in 11.16 and
Jack Catelotti placing eighth in 11.17.
Stewart returned in the 200 meters to capture another victory, crossing in 21.65, while
Alexander Flynn secured second place in 21.75.
Francis Grasso (22.36), Sicurella (22.37), and
Jace Lewis (22.50) rounded out a strong RPI contingent with fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-place finishes, respectively.
Flynn continued his standout day in the 400 meters, earning the event title with a time of 48.71. He was joined by teammates
Donovan Myrick, who placed fourth in 49.21,
Caden Caron in seventh (50.42), and
Walter Withrow in eighth (50.99).
Cortez Garrett led the Engineers with a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.35, while
Chris Kay added a fifth-place result in 16.01. Garrett also competed in the 400-meter hurdles, placing third overall in 57.10, and
Jack Gips added a seventh-place finish in 1:00.82.
RPI's field athletes also delivered several standout performances.
Tristan Mangin highlighted the throwing events with a victory in the javelin, posting a mark of 58.83 meters, while also placing seventh in the discus with a throw of 42.57 meters. In the hammer throw,
Eric Mulqueen led the Engineers with a sixth-place finish at 45.13 meters, followed by
Colby Grove in eighth (44.38m) and
Paul Sussman in ninth (44.02m).
Moss Dengler captured first place in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.75 meters, while
Calvin Chang placed fourth in the high jump at 1.90 meters.
Ervin Owusu added an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.23 meters, and
Jack Notaro placed eighth in the triple jump at 11.87 meters.
The Engineers ar enext set to compete at UMass Amherst next Saturday.
