GENEVA, N.Y. -
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez advanced to the final of the ITA Regional Championship, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) junior was defeated in three sets, 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4, to Alan Dubrovsky of Hobart College.
Castillo-Sanchez earned the opportunity to play for the title with a three-set, semifinals victory over Vishal Walia of NYU, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Dubrovsky handed a 6-4, 7-5 loss to JT Wynne of Skidmore to advance to the final.
The Engineers were also represented in the doubles semifinals with Castillo-Sanchez and
Andrew Imrie, but the tandem lost to Dubrovsky and Walker Anderson, 8-6.
The singles and doubles champions in each of the ITA's nine regions advance to the 2018 ITA Cup. The National Small College Championships will be held October 11-14 at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Ga.
